Gov. Eric Holcomb announces stage 4.5 that begins this Saturday.
The Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Department has canceled all its large events for the remainder of the year because of safety concerns during the pandemic.
“For the safety of our employees, sponsors, volunteers and the public we decided to err on the side of caution,” said Don Nicholls, resource development director for the Hamilton County Parks and Recreation Department. “We are very sad, crushed.”

The programming being canceled are the Little Haunt on the Prairie at Ghoul Creek Park, which draws up to 3,000 people each year; the Potter’s Bridge Fall Festival, which attracts 5,000 people in early October; and the concert series at Coxhall Gardens, which draws about 2,000.
Parks and Recreation Director Chris Stice said the parks board voted unanimously to cancel the events “during these ever changing times” but will continue safely manage smaller, outdoor programs, usually fewer than 30 people.
Nicholls said the parks department had modified plans for the canceled events and the health department had approved them but decided against staging them.
The summer series of concerts at Cool Creek Park had already been canceled, with two acts rescheduled to Coxhall Gardens. Now, those are also canceled with the other acts at Coxhall.
At the start of the pandemic, the parks department also modified its summer camps. The campers had the choice of reserving a spot next year, getting a refund or going on a slimmed down single night of camping.
“It was pretty popular,” Nicholls said, “and gave them a chance to say at least they went camping in 2020.”
There are still programs available, including bird and flower hikes and still-life drawing instruction. For a full calendar of events, visit www.hamiltoncounty.in.gov/296/Parks-and-Recreation.
